The Vision
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up watching professional baseball. | The Golden Baseball League, presented by Safeway, Inc., is dedicated to developing professional independent minor league baseball in western North America. Now celebrating its sixth season and considered the premier independent league in the country, the GBL will continue to establish and grow minor league teams with a vision for three eight-team divisions in the Pacific Northwest/Canada, the Pacific Coast, and the Southwest over the next five years.
The League will play in a combination of City and University owned stadiums and work collaboratively to market professional baseball in each community. The League will allow communities to experience the wonder of America's pastime and give children of all ages their first exposure to the great game of professional baseball.
The League - which is made up of teams owned by the league and independent ownership groups as well - will be profitable and stable. Our teams will play in fan-friendly facilities that will provide a fun and safe environment for families. Players will be well integrated into the community and will spend time at schools, camps, business lunches, and local events. With the League's support and encouragement, players will be given the opportunity to improve their skills and move up to Major League organizations.
The ten-team league for 2010 includes a South Division comprised of the Na Koa Ikaika Maui, Tucscon Toros, Yuma Scorpions, Orange County Flyers and the Tijuana Cimarrones. In the North Division the teams are the Calgary Vipers, the Edmonton Capitals, the Victoria Seals, St. George Roadrunners, and the Chico Outlaws.
